The Spreadsheet Tells All
One of my goals this year was to keep accurate records of all my playing, and so far I've been able to do it. I've tried to do this in the past but whenever I start running bad -- I would stop! Lol. Kind of defeats the purpose.
We'll I'm in a real bad run right now for Multi-table tournaments. I did come in 4th in a pretty big MTT but it was the UB Winter games tournament with only a $20 buy-in. I also made the final table in the Charity tournament that was promoted on pocketfives on Monday. This was nice because, even though it was a small turnout, it was loaded with pros.
But my bread and butter are the UB $100 and $200 tournaments. Because those are directly related to the Extreme Tilt leader, I'd like to do well there as I have in the past (I was 9th overall last year). But the run there continues to be brutal -- and I continue to be haunted by my opponents hitting a set or trips. In many cases, I'm going deep, then get all in with AK and I've hit my Ace on the flop -- but my opponent hits his set. These are suppose to be rare! Even in the charity tournament, I went out with two pair (aces and kings) but he hit a set of 4s. On that final table I had rebuilt my stack from 290 chips (!) to 6k or so and that hand would have pushed me up a lot.
But, back to the spreadsheet: over the last 30 days I'm actually down in MTTs. This hasn't happened since last summer. But because I am cashing here and there, and going deep so often, I'm still pretty confident in my play. But it kind of makes you pissed off.
SitnGoes continue to keep me going. So far this year I'm "In the Money" (ITM) 59% of the time with a Return on Investment (ROI) at a healthy 68%. I'm sure these numbers would go down if I played more. Lately PartyPoker SNGs have been the place of choice. They fill up fast and can be very easy (you have to be prepared for bad suck outs because they play so bad, but it pays off over time). I swear, sometimes I'm working on other things and just folding -- 10 minutes go by and 4 people are already out. I guess I should move up in levels and see if the quality of play gets higher.

Nice blog ya got here Mindwise ... keep up the good work.... you know, large MTTs can be very streaky, so just keep your head to the grindstone and the results are there! Seems like I'm on a streak like you mentioned in my live tourneys lately .. out 13th in one wsop circuit event with AK flopping 2 pair losing to set on river... out early in another wsop event flopping set (vs 2 pair)losing to 2-outer boat on river... good thing about online play though dude - there's always another tourney just a click away!
I really enjoy your articles. I would be interested in your spreadsheet format for following your progress
