January Players of the Month: JohnnyBax and JJProdigy

Congrats to JohnnyBax and JJProdigy who tied for our January Player of the Month honors. I don't know how often JJ plays at UB (at bit more recently I think), but I do know that Bax (and other pros you normally see on our leader board) has been playing more live tournaments. Bax was in two in January so winning the month is impressive. Bax cashed six times, won one tournament, and came in 2nd twice. JJ cashed 5 times and won the Sunday $200.

Other pros who are playing well are Wachovia and debo34. Debo, I believe, has already won two WSOP seats as well as the excellent results in the $100s.

People who read this blog probably already know that Bax finished 11th yesterday in the World Poker Tour's Borgata event in Atlantic City. I'm sure it's painful not to make the final table but congrats! Bax went out on his signature hand, 9 7 suited. Ironically he had doubled very early in the tournament with the hand. In this case he flopped two pair with it and check raised the Grinder, who called with QQ. The turn was a Queen and Bax was out. He got all his chips in with a huge advantage. What else can you do?

I had a very "blah" night last night. Played a lot and just never got over the hump, finishing in the top half of 3rd in all the tournament but never got the big hand to push up further.

I will note one thing: twice last night (both in the 7:40pm $100), players limped with AA. In both cases my top pair didn't improve (flushes and straights were possible) and I lost big hands. Not sure what to say about it either. In both cases these were middle position limps and they had multiple callers. I just don't get it.

Good luck today!
