How to Play AJ ... A Serious Question
I've had a bunch of people tell me I should post something in my blog that I posted a while back at Pocketfives. It's a slow night blog-wise, so here it is.
AngryTeeTee posted a simple question: "How do you play AJ in early position?" People at her ecrew table (Ho, Feldliss, Wachovia) were not being helpful with advice like: "Raise it hard on Mondays, Fold it pre on Tuesdays, limp on Thursdays."
My reply:
TT, this is completely ridiculous. You play it based on the players you are up against. The day of the week doesn't matter.
Against AngryClec, you limp, he raises, you go all in and he calls with 92 because of "Pot Odds" then sucks out when 992 flops.
Against Wachovia, you raise, he calls, flop A J 4. You check, he bets, and you fold cuz he's just gonna outplay you post flop anyway.
Against Bax, you raise, he re-raises, you call. Flop is A J 8. You bet out, he's all-in, you call. Turn 10. Bax starts typing 666666666666666666 over and over again. River 6. He flips 7 9 and your out.
Against Sheets, you go all-in. He calls and flips A9 and shouts: WELCOME to SHEETSWORLD. Flop is the same 992. GG.
Against P0ker H0, you raise, he re-raises, you call. Flop Ad Jd 4c. Bet, all-in, call. Ho flips 7d 4d. Turn 2d. GG
Against KrazyKanuck, you limp, he raises, you call. Flop J J 10. You check, he bets out, you are all-in. He pauses for like 2 minutes (special connections for the extra time) and calls and flips AA. Turn A. Suck, resuck, GG.
Or maybe you just fold it.
