JohnnyBax's Oh So Unlucky Day, H0, H0, H0, PXF

JohnnyBax had a terribly unlucky day yesterday. I railed him on UB and PokerStars and saw the following hands:

On UB: he has AK, hits two pair, gets it all-in, his opponent rivers a straight flush, gg bax.

On Stars: Bax loses the following hands ... AK vs A4, AA vs AK on a rivered straight in an enormous 150,000+ chip hand that would made him chip leader, there was one more bad one I can't remember, then finally AQ vs A9. With just a bit of luck, he final tables that Stars $500,000 Guaranteed and has a shot at the $140k first prize. He lost a few coin flips as well. Wow what a bad run. I'd quit poker for a week after a run like that ... except:

Bax did finish something like 39th out of 3000+ players in the Stars to win $2k, then he WON the stars rebuy for $22k ... oh, and he won a $10,500 side bet that is becoming all the rage on pocketfives.

Guess bad beats really get him down. I wish I had $34,000 unlucky days. ;-) See my blog below on Top Players and Luck.

I had a good run in the UB $200 last night but didn't cash. What I was happy about was I, for a change, was able to keep chipping up after being knocked down. Unfortunately a bad beat (I had three or four normal ones) or a lost coin flip (two or three of these) would push me back down and I could never break through to that next level in chips (I kept getting back to 9000 or so). But the good thing was that for a change I had enough chips to handle the bad beats and I was making smart decisions. Just needed that touch of luck to push up. I finished 137th out of 810 (top 90 paid). One note: Homer07, a very good player, finished

Congrats to original extreme tilt crew member PSP1 who finished 20th in the $200. Well done!

Also congrats to P0ker H0 who won his WSOP entry on UB last night in a 105 person tournament that paid exactly one seat into the main event. No cash for second. I think these are nutty tournaments to play in, but it worked for H0. It seems to me that P0ker H0 has been less visable on UB for the last few months, but in recent weeks he's been back and on fire.

I received about a dozen emails about the blog below. Glad you guys liked it.

PokerXFactor Hand Viewer: What other features do you guys want added? I have two in mind. Thanks!

Thanks for the shout Mindwise and let me return the favor by joining others in saying your previous blog on luck and "pros" is a very well written statement on "luck" and "skill" in poker. Before the 200 I had had a short run of bad beats and suckouts from moronic players. I was telling BiggiePomona (who also had a good day)that I expected to do well in the 200 as the luck would even out. Early on I tripled up when two donks went for long shot draws against my trips. When that happens I try to make a mental note that "donks are good". Then, when one sucks out on me it doesn't hurt so much. Later when I hit my two outer to chip up enough to put me solidly into the cash Ithought "see, NOW I am in Leggggy's league". ;-) It does even out, you just have to program
urself to remember the good beats too.

Yeah, I came in third in the WSOP satellite that H0 won. I agree that the format is nutty, but I've had a lot of success in satellites. Also, you can negotiate a save to soften the blow if you come in 2nd or 3rd.

Hey mindwise,

I think I should probably have the tiebreaker over you since I got the "nano bounty" from Jack McCleland last night before Bax could get his grubby hands on him, lol. Enjoy the holidays.

Hi Scott

Nice article about the bead beats of Johnny Bax. After reading it I stopped fuming over my own AKs vs AQ exit around the bubble in yesterdays UB 100 tourney.
